St Pierre du Bois Floral group Guernsey welcomes you to our Vraic web site.
Floral St Peter's is a small volunteer group dedicated to maintaining and improving the natural beauty of our Parish. The slogan 'Orguillaeux d'not'e paraesse' means 'Proud of our Parish' in Guernesiase (old Norman French if you like)
Click on our badge (left) to go to our main site to see what we get up to. In 2015 we were awarded Gold for the third time in the national RHS ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition and have been invited to take part in this year’s ‘Champion of Champions' competing with the top five communities in the U.K. A tremendous honour and quite a challenge for our parish.
We are keen to revive interest in an old Guernsey tradition, the gathering and use of vraic (seaweed in Guernsey french). For over four hundred years Guernseymen and women collected vraic from the foreshores to use as a fertiliser on their land. The famous Guernsey tom benefited from this free fertiliser. Last year we held a ‘Vraic Day’ on the beach at L’Eree celebrating seaweed and all its uses, culinary, medicinal, beauty products and horticulture.
